HANA KARIM

SLOVENIA

Born in Slovenia, Hana Karim lives and works in the capital, Ljubljana.
Hana grew up in an artistic family, playing and running between painting and ceramic studios. Her parents had a huge influence on her work and it was thanks to them that the artist fell in love with ceramics. Hana's father, who was greatly influenced by the work of Joan Miró, is a painter and colorist who uses vivid colors perfectly. Hana's mother creates ceramics and draws inspiration from nature, prehistoric art and ancient culture. Following in the footsteps of her mother, the Slovenian artist first spent ten years creating handcrafted ceramic jewellery before turning to household items, creating phenomenal plates, bowls and platters. It was the experience of working with jewellery that taught her how important attention to detail is.

Hana's works are formed by hand, their shape is not perfect, and the colored glaze is placed in such a way that it emphasizes the accidental imperfections of the form. The artist uses blurs of colored glaze and uneven brushstrokes to decorate the surface of each object. What characterizes her work are absolutely beautiful, vivid colors, which, combined with her characteristic shapes, are perfectly recognizable.

This is what she says about her work with clay: “Praca z czymś tak pierwotnym jest jak podążanie za pewnymi pradawnymi tendencjami w nas samych; jest to rodzaj połączenia z naszymi przodkami, które wciąż jeszcze nie zaginęło w epoce szybkiego rozwoju i technologii. Ziemia była tutaj, zanim istnieli ludzie, i pozostanie tu, gdy nas już nie będzie”.
